Summary
Brass compound microscope. English, early 19th century. Objective in the form of three dividing lenses which may be combined to give different magnifications. Tube unscrews and reattaches to support column upside down to fit into case. Three ivory specimen slides (one broken) and a, now missing, pair of brass tweezers. In a cylindrical case, covered with red leather, and lined with velvet, two catches. No maker's name. In notebook no.2, page ? (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 138. 'Small Microscope of Brass - dismantles and fits in a cylindrical case covered with Red leather. early. 19th. cent.' Includes sketch with dimensions.
