Summary
Brass sextant with platinum and gold scales. Maker - Cary, London. English, mid 19th century. In addition to the sextant, the box has fittings to hold telescopes, eyepieces etc. Paper label of Kew certificate for 1895 on the lid. In notebook no.2, page ? (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 215. SEXTANT given to me by Captain OAKES. has the certificate of Kew Observatory. class A no 657 8" radius by CARY LONDON January 1895 with fittings in mahogany case'. Includes sketch.
