Summary
Pocket Celestial Globe. Spherical black shagreen covered pasteboard hinged case, with two hook catches (one more missing), containing fitted celestial globe with brass meridian circle, which is fixed in case. Globe rotates within case. Celestial amp inside top half, showing, among others, planet Berschel (Uranus) with six satellites. Compass scale around inner rim of lid. Labelled 'Newton's Improved Pocket Celestial Globe' English, second quarter of the 19th century. In notebook no.2, page 7 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 120 (iv). NEWTON’S Improved pocket Celestial globe with Brass Meridian circle & dial. Shagreen case. 3¾” dia.'
