Summary
Pocket planetarium. Spherical pasteboard case, hinged and covered with fish skin. Containing central brass sun and seven ivory planets on protruding arms (Mercury, Venus, Earth with moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus). Mars coloured red. Celestial sphere lining interior of case. Labelled 'Newton's Improved Pocket Celestial Globe'. Brass nut at pole to hold spike. English, 2nd quarter of the 19th century. In notebook no.2, page 31 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral '120 (v) - 'NEWTON'S celestial globe. Showing the Earth, Sun and Planets by ivory balls.' Includes diameter.
