Summary
Painted shrine with figure of the Virgin Mary (Sancta Maria) shown with head lowered and hands clasped. Painted wearing white robes and head scarf with blue mantle with gold painted edging. Octagonal base inscribed on reverse 'B.O.W. 1922 A. Dapre'. Designed and carved in Teak by A. Dapre from Tyrol. Sits in a wooden paneled niche with stone tiled roof which is painted 'Wade blue'. Previously associated with inventory number SNO.SC.5136. Charles Wade refers to this item in his notebook Haphazard Notes Volume 2. 'Set in the roof of the GARDEN HOUSE is a NICHE with pilasters and semi dome, painted turquoise. Within, figure of OUR LADY, painted and gilded. The figure was carved and designed by A. Dapre of the Tyrol'. (page 110, numbered incorrectly)
