Summary
Faded black and white portrait photograph, stuck onto a photographer's card leaving narrow borders. There is a pin hole at the top. On reverse, printed the arms of the order of the garter above 'Elliot & Fry 55 Baker Street, Portman Square, London'. Handwritten in pencil 'Gustave Doré' and in ink 'Artist'. Picture is a head and shoulders of a youngish man with wavy hair and a moustache, wearing a double-breasted suit, shirt and tie.

Gustave Doré was a French artist, well known for his illustrations of books - Dante's 'Divine Comedy', 'Don Quixote' etc.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
