Summary
Oleograph on paper, The Village Secretary(after Franz Meerts). The original painting called The Old Attorney is in the Southampton City Art Gallery. A man at a desk, sharpening his quill. There are books on the shelf on the back wall and above the mantelpiece, as well as on the table. Gilt surround and heavy black frame. Meerts, born 1836 in Ghent and dies 1896 in Brussels and studied under Portal in Ghent.

Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
