Summary
Mans headdress from Bali, buffalo hide with hair. Basket framework of hide covered with canvas and hair, decorated with gold. Representations of jewels to the front of the crest and edge of the object. Pierced roundels on wooden rods each side of the face (right side missing). Elaborate pierced wings to the sides and back. Large raised curving section to the top divided into four lobes. At the rear, a wooden depiction of the head of a bird with a large beak with teeth. In notebook no.4, page 46 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Seraphim 139. Man's Headress of hide with the hair left on over a basket framework & ornaments with pierced buffalo parchment finished gold. There is a wig attached.' Includes sketch with dimensions.
