Summary
Meerschaum pipe - Meerschaum pipe bowl with large engraved silver mount. C.S 1847. (Meerschaum German trans. Meer - 'sea', and Schaum - 'foam', with reference to its frothiness. Hydrated magnesium silicate, found mainly in Turkey, it resembles clay, and was commonly used for pipe bowls.)
