Summary
Alto saxhorn or small euphonium, anon., probably French, c.1870-80. Marked '1ST CLASS RIVIERE & HAWKES, 28 LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON' at base of bell. Also, ‘Training ship Exmouth’ on outer rim of bell. Missing mouthpiece and many pieces of tubing., and valve tops. Generally very battered.
Provenance
bought in Cheltenham, December 1941 for £3. Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
