Summary
Sho, (Japenese mouth organ), 19th century, possible earlier. Japanese mouth-blown free-reed instrument. 17 bamboo pipes of varying lengths painted copper colour with a light bamboo band. Each pipe has a small hole near its base, and a slit towards the top on the inner surface; one pipe missing its bottom part. Two tallest have a Japanese character scratched on. Wooden, black lacquered chamber with mouth piece. Curved wooden stand for instrument to lie on.
