Summary
Drum (Side -), English, early 19th century. Hoops painted red. Bracing tightened with buff leather 'tugs'. Single, red-painted panel with hole in the side. Brown body. Repair (1970s) to top skin. In notebook no.2, page 6 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 8. An Old Side Drum. Said to have been used at Waterloo, fitted with catgut ‘Snare’ painted dark blue & red.' Includes sketch with dimensions. In Account book SNO.MISC.972 Wade refers to a 'Waterloo Side Drum Used by Coldstream Guards' that he purchased from 'Dee Millard' for £4 4s. (page 39).
