Summary
Harp-Lute, Light, 12 strings, c.1816. Marked 'Light, Foley Place, London'. Ebonised and gilt. Un-numbered. Gilt rose in the form of a trophy of musical instruments with latin motto. Gold decoration of foliage, faces and lutes; collage of a drum, a trumpet and various weapons. Gilded harp column with acanthus top. Curved back in six sections with two elongated holes. In notebook no.4, page 3 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Music Room 1. Harp Lute by Ed. Light of black & gold with carved & gilded fret of Fleur de lis & instruments'. 'Either bought 'from G. Macdonald, 88 High Street, St Johns Wood, London, 24th September 1932, Harp Lute "2.10s' or 'from Reg Andrade, Plympton, Devon 24th November 1939' (M. Jessup).
