Summary
Serpent, by F. Pretty, London, c.1830. Mouthpiece mount engraved 'F. Pretty, Improved Basshorn and Serpent Maker, Waterloo Road, Nr. The Obelisk, London'. Wood, covered in black leather. Brass mounts, three brass keys. One strut loose. Bone rims to the six finger holes, wooden mouthpiece. Horn painted red inside. In notebook no.4, page 6 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Music Room 44. Serpent by F. Pretty, Waterloo Rd, of wood covered with black leather, it has only 3 keys, late 18th Cent.' Bought from Ipswich a Serpent 10s.
