Summary
Bassoon, English, c.1810. marked 'Astor' below first mount. Stained maple with brass mounts. Eight brass keys. In notebook no.4, page 9 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Music Room 89. 4 Bassoons of 18th Cent. one has a copper horn.' Three bassoons recorded; one bought from Oliver Smith and Co. 34 High Street Oxford, 10th May 1934 one antique bassoon £3, one from Fenton and Sons, 11 New Oxford Street London, 19th February 1917 and a third bassoon from Hildersham Church Cambridgeshire 17s.6d. (M.Jessup). Unsure which of these purchases relate to which bassoon.

Unsure which these purchases relate to which bassoon. Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
