Summary
Cylindrical metal taper holder, black, with taper fixed to the lid. Carrying handle and small semi-circular compartment with hinged lid for matches. 'Rd K S' in lozenge insignia to one side. Bayonet fiing of lid. These tapers were largely used to melt sealing wax for envelopes. In notebook number 5 (SNO.MISC.959.5) Charles Wade mentions this item. 'Top Royal. 22. Wax Taper Box + holder of tin with box attached for matches'. Wade has also included a detailed drawing of the box. (page 6)
