Summary
Eight day English striking spring clock in ebonized case, by John Thwaites, London, c1820. Two train, five pillar fusee movement with anchor escapement and rack hour striking on bell. Engraved border to backplate and 'clip' type pendulum holdfast. Convex white painted dial with Roman numerals and signed: "John Thwaites & Co., Clerkenwell, London" in plain dial centre. Strike/silent lever above XII. Blued steel hands. Ebonised break arch top case with brass carrying handle to top and brass, silk lined fish-scale frets to sides and below dial. Glazed back door. Brass mouldings to front edges and convex glass in narrow cast brass bezel over dial. Small brass turned feet.
