Summary
Second quarter bell (left-hand) above turret Clock: Inscription and marks: Crown: 24 (incised) Soundbow: J WARNER & SONS LONDON 1855 Founder and date: John Warner & Sons of Cripplegate, London, 1855 – the firm (fl.1850-1920) which cast the original “Big Ben” and its four quarter bells in 1856 Mouldings: 2:2-2:2:1 (the mouldings underlined are incised and not cast on the bell) Canons and argent: Six canons and argent Frequency / note: Nominal 2486Hz (E flat minus 2 cents) Fittings: Hung from a wooden headstock and secured to it with two pairs of straps and a pair of J-bolts through the single canons. Internal clapper suspended from cast-in crown staple. Struck (like the other quarter bell) by a cord fixed to the clapper.
