Summary
An oak box bed, English, circa 1930. Constructed and painted by Charles Wade, used by Mrs. Wade, with a painted cornice and double fold-out doors with windows, a double fitted wardrobe built onto the side and with a box-seat settle to the front which has a two part lid and a large iron lock-plate (circa 1650). The bed contains a mattress and has a faded red cotton pelmet inside the doors. The double doors are inscribed with the painted motto N.DEBES.DESPERARE.SED.AD | VOLUNTATEM.DEI.AEQUANIM | ITER.STAR E.ET.CUNCTA.SUPER | VENIENTIA.TIBI.AD.LAUDEM | IHC PERPETI.QUIA.POST | HIEMEM.SEQUITUR.AESTAS | POST.NOCTEM.REDIT.DIES | ET.P.TEMPESTAT.SERENITAS. Inside the bed is a red-painted niche with shelf and drawer. CPW Item 10 (Unicorn) - Oak panelled box bed with folding doors. Sliding panel to cupboard in wall'. Also CPW Item 37 (Small Bed Room) - 'Old Lock on seat to box bed'.
