Summary
Vertical cottage spinning wheel with double band driving system. Origins from the United Kingdom, possibly Scotland circa 1800 - 1900. Oak rim with beechwood legs and posts. Dark stained. A vertical wheel with segmented style wheel supported off a rectangular table chamfered at the back on four legs. Table style is reminiscent of Shetland but by no means definitive. Nineteenth century. Missing front maiden, bobbin, flyer, pulley whorl, top/middle distaff spindle work. Fair condition but looks as if it has been modified where the flyer/bobbin would otherwise fit. Information and digital image provided by David and Valerie Bryant 2006.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
