Summary
Vertical cottage spinning wheel from the United Kingdom circa 1800 - 1900. Made of oak with dark stain. A vertical cottage wheel with a small rectangular table carried on three splayed legs. The wheel is mounted on paired posts connected at the top with semi-circular arch pieces. Wheels with this form are seen in England, Scotland and Scandanavia. The table has small roundels fitted on top where the legs would otherwise have penetrated through. See arch tops on Donald Sinclair wheels but his are different and he name stamped his wheels. Estimated to be nineteenth century. Missing distaff, flyer, pulley whorl and footman. Condition is good. Information and digital image provided by David and Valerie Bryant 2006.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
