Summary
Horizontal spinning wheel with double band driving system. Origins are Scandanavian circa 1870-1930. Rim softwood, table, legs and wheel posts are beechwood. Treadle is an oak replacement. Light stain colouration. A horizontal style spinning wheel with a raised platform on the left side. The table on three legs has a curved cut out in the centre making it easier for the spinner to treadle. The screwed spindle work between the platform and the wheel supports are a means of tracking the wheel to align the drive cord with the bobbin and pulley whorl. The wheel supports tilt marginally in the table holes when doing this. The front legs fit through the stretcher bar carrying the treadle. Quite a decorative wheel to look at though affected by worm. Horizontal wheels with raised platform are typically Scandinavian. Treadle stretcher arrangement on this wheel is also a feature of Scandanavian wheels. Thought to be 1870 -1930. Missing distaff. Condition fair to poor. Much woodworm. Front maiden is broken at the top and a small pip of ivory/bone is missing at the back of the mother of all. The treadle may not be original.
