Summary
Sloping bed spinning wheel with double band driving system. Originating from the United Kingdom circa 1900 - 1950. Mahogany with light stain. A Saxony style spinning wheel standing on ring turned legs. Rectangular table with turned centre recess. Unusual three spindle distaff, the upper part in the form of a multi-tiered dish (i.e like a dumb waiter) and a cup feature at the bottom. Distaff has two position holes in the table. Probably a one off by a twentieth century maker. Missing bobbin and flyer assembly. Good condition except upper distaff spindle is broken in two parts and the cup feature is chipped. Early NT ref SNODC15. Information and digital image supplied by David and Valerie Bryant in 2006.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
