Summary
Sloping cottage spinning wheel with double band driving system. Made in the United Kingdon circa 1900 - 1930. Oak wheel and treadle. Table and other parts sycamore. Dark stain finish. A traditional Saxony sloping bed wheel mounted on three triple bead style legs with an 'A' pattern treadle. The spokes also have triple bead turnery. The table has a turned feature in the centre and notched decoration on the ends. Considered to be from the United Kingdom, possibly Scottish but further evidence would be needed to prove this. Estimated to be early twentieth century. Missing wheel post pegs and distaff. Information and digital photograph provided by David and Valerie Bryant 2006. In notebook no.4, page 89 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Spinning Room 20 Scotch Wheel of pine - simple turning of stout proportions. Same design as the Irish wheel.'. Includes sketch with dimensions.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
