Summary
A pony hide and iron-bound rectangular trunk, English, circa 1840. Still retaining the original protective black leather cover, pierced for the side carrying handles. A dark brown cattle hide cover for the trunk with the same number. The seams are sewn and there is a flap at each end to give access to the carrying handles. With brass studding around the edges and iron lock plate, the interior lined with pages from a book and then a blue check patterned paper laid over them, the base with three wooden batons running the length. In notebook no.4, page 109 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Weaver's Room 88. Old Hide covered Box belonged to the Rev. Daniel of Caius House, Wymondham, Norfolk, it has got its outer leather cover for journeys by coach. 3'2" x 1'6½"''
