Summary
Carved, wooden Norwegian loving cup with two handles in the shape of horses heads. Painted red with yellow and green decoration of foliage and scrollwork. Inscription in black on yellow around the outside of rim. Leaf decoration in black and yellow on base of interior. In notebook no.1, page 63 (1340945.1) Charles Wade refers to: 'Meridian 7. Norwegian Bowl.of wood, painted with scroll on red & a band of lettering. For drinking beer – shape influenced by that of Viking ships'. Includes sketch.

CPW item 7 Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
Marks and inscriptions
Norwegian inscription round the lip of the cup said to be a dedication to Nils Kundsen with a proverb about drinking.
