Summary
A Buddhist Butsudan black lacquer freestanding shrine cabinet, Japanese, mid 19th century. The exterior doors with central escutcheon and brass hinges, folding back to reveal a pair of lattice inner doors enclosing a fitted gilded interior of pillared niches, drawers and sliding compartments below a canopy roof / sky with bells hanging, standing on a plinth base containing two short drawers and a pull-out slide.
