Summary
Pole weapon; Naginata, Japanese pole weapon. Long curved steel blade with red painted channel and small brass fitting. Blade signed in Japanese characters Yasumitsu, probably of Satsuma province, early 19th century. Blade inserts into copper ferrule pierced with heart decoration. Wooden shaft, the top third of which is inlaid with square mother-of-pearl fragments. Three plain brass bands to this section with a gold painted cord textured wooden grip. The rest of the shaft has a thick black ridged lacquer coating. The end has a plain iron band. Sticky label on blade '26'.
