Summary
Shield; Jingasa (Japanese shield). Wooden with fluted edge and raised centre. Dark brown crinkle finish lacquer. Painted in gold with three Asano family crests. Two long silk padded loops and two padded hand grips on centre of black lacquered reverse. In notebook no.3, page 114 (1340945.3) Charles Wade refers to: 'Green Room 539. Japanese Hat of Dark Brown lacquer. Waved edge – crests in gold. See No.389.Stippled surface.
