Summary
Indo-Persian shield, circular steel. Four domed studs, ornate gold decoration, polished steel centre with gold inlaid animals, tigers, rabbits, leapards and deer. Sunburst to centre. Stylised bands of decoration to the edge. Crescent moon pinned to centre. On reverse, red velvet lining. pinned around the edge. Purple velvet, square Padded cushion, lined with gold and green in the centre, with two velvet covered,leather handles on iron rings attached to iron posts on the back of the front studs. 'Qajar shield, western India, 19th century' (M. Jessup).
