Summary
Scabbard to Pipe back naval sword (1328726.1/SNO.A.26.1). Black leather scabbard with two brass fittings; top one with two brass loops for strap. Inscribed 'DUDLEY, GRAND PARADE, PORTSMOUTH'. In CPW notebook 1340945.2 (Admiral) 'Naval sword belonged to Admiral John Ross Ward RN. He entered the Navy in 1826. Retd: Captain 1870. Ret'd Ad' 1875 was for many years General Inspector of Lifeboats & retired aged 70 in 1883. Invented the sectioned cork life belt.' CPW Item number 62 (Admiral)
