Summary
Royal mortar in bronze. Five and a half inch calibre with bronze pivot. On original solid wood base, painted red with tampion and wedge, iron shackles across pivot. Four carrying ropes. Inscription on wedge reads '45 DEGREES'. Mortar inscribed 'FRANCIS 1704' surmounted by crown and initials 'G.R.'. In notebook no.2, page 13 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral '32. Ship’s Mortar Still has its wooden Tampion. The inscription is very worn.' Includes sketch with dimensions.
