Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, (circular), George Abraham Gibbs (1848-1870 and his Brother Henry Martin Gibbs (1850-1928) as Children with a Dog by Sir William Charles Ross RA (London 1794 – London 1860), 1850. Two whole-length portraits of young boys with a large dog, under a tree in a park landscape; the elder boy holding the dog with one hand and its chain with the other; the younger boy seated on the ground holding a plucked daisy aloft. Cloudy sky. Signed and inscribed on an old label, attached to reverse. One of a set of three. Because of their delicate nature these miniatures are displayed on a rotational basis to protect their integrity. Oval giltwood frame and veneered wooden box with hinged doors and easel stand on the back
