Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory (circular), William Gibbs (1790-1875) with his Children, Dorothea Harriet Gibbs (1840-1914) and Antony Gibbs (1841-1907) by Sir William Charles Ross RA (London 1794 – London 1860), 1849. Three whole-length portraits, the two children either side of their father, sitting on a crimson sofa, landscape and sky background to the left, and a crimson curtain to right. Painted while the artist was staying at Tyntesfield. One of set of three. Because of their delicate nature these miniatures are displayed on a rotational basis to protect their integrity. Oval giltwood frame and veneered wooden box with hinged doors and easel stand on the back. Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1850 togther with NT13187.1.
