Summary
Portrait miniature, Watercolour on ivory (circular), Matilda Blanche Crawley-Boevey, Mrs William Gibbs (1817-1887) with her Children, Alice Blanche Gibbs later Mrs Alfred Gurney (1843-1871), William Gibbs (1846-1869) and George Abraham Gibbs (1848-1870) by Sir William Charles Ross RA (1794-1860) 1849. Four nearly whole length figures, the mother with two children either side of her and one on her lap, sitting on a crimson sofa, landscape and sky background to the left, and gold curtain to the right. One of a set of three. Because of their delicate nature these miniatures are displayed on a rotational basis to protect their integrity. The artist was the miniature painter to Queen Victoria. He stayed at Tyntesfield for six weeks in 1849 and painted the first two groups with the third three years later. Oval giltwood frame and veneered wooden box with hinged doors and easel stand on the back. Displayed at the Royal Academy in 1850 along with NT13187.2.
