Print, Ruth and Naomi, after Philip Hermogenes Calderon (Poitiers, France 1833 – London 1898). The original painting is in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (114) and was voted the best religious picture at the 1886 Royal Academy. The scene is from Ruth 1:16 and depicts the moment when Naomi is returning to her native land from Moab and is trying to dssuade her two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Oprah, the figure on the right, from accompanying her. Ruth, the central figure, insists on going.
