Summary
Print, aquatint etching, The Warrener (after George Morland) by William Ward the Elder, RA (London 1766 – London 1826). 1806. Cottager returning home from shooting rabbits. This type of employement is seldom seen now. Warrener is a man employed on a large country estate to encourage rabbits, maintain their warrens and keep down their predators. In bygone days fresh rabbit meat was an essential part of the food of country people, as there were no fridges or freezers. Purchased from Mrs Tudor Perkins in 1991.
