Summary
A Tonga Zulu fringed bush buck leather bag and with horn container attached. Associated label. Part of Lord Egerton's collection of ethnographic objects once displayed in the Tenants' Hall.
Marks and inscriptions
Associated label. TONGA - ZULU'S BAG. Made of bush buck skin. Containing a Shunga or monkey orange, full of tobacco. Attached to the leather strings are - (A) A goat's horn container containing medicine, (B) one wooden lucky charm, (C) 2 pieces of root used for maize. The root (C) is taken to the maize field and burnt; and the smoke makes the maize grow well, and not die from drought.
