Summary
One of six desert concretions of sand and iron from the Libyan Desert in Sudan displayed in an original white painted tray. Collected 1929. Associated label. Part of Lord Egerton's collection of ethnographic objects once displayed in the Tenants' Hall.

Associated label. Desert Concretions. (SAND and IRON). Iron ores and silica are brought to the surface in arid areas by capillary attraction, and on the evaporation of the water in which they were dissolved they are deposited around the grains of the sand, which is hardened and compacted.
