Full description
A report by Ian West and Marilyn Palmer on the technology at Tatton, February 2013, describes the refrigerator at Tatton, shown on a plan dated 1911, as being complete with its DC electric motor-driven vapour compression machinery. Tim Martin, Context Engineering Ltd., March 2013, 'Report on the Condition of Country House Technology Items at Tatton Park, Cheshire': This refrigerator would appear to have been installed after the 1910 re-fit, as the tiling goes behind the fabricated room and has been altered to bring in the cabling and drain pipe. The date of the fitting may well have been 1914 as shown on the temperature gauge. The shelf inside the fridge would have housed a thermograph to record temperature. The refrigeration unit is galvanised. There is meat racking in the cold store.
