Summary
A historic transportation system. 'An estimate dated 25/5/1909 shows that the present Automatic Electric Passenger Lift replaced an earlier Direct Acting Low Pressure Hydraulic Lift, and was installed .. By R.Waygood & Co. Ltd. at a cost of £355'. The bus bar cabinet bears the name "Perry & Co., London" and is an example of the replacement of domestic wiring originally installed in the 1880's and 1890's in the first decade of the twentieth century. A report by Ian West and Marilyn Palmer, February 2013, on the technology at Tatton Park, notes that in the aforementioned estimate by Waygood & Co describes a very elegant teak-panelled lift car, with a mirror, upholstered seat and a glazed lantern roof. It also had “a hinged floor...to fold up and protect the panelling when carrying coals or luggage”. Therefore, this lift was designed for both goods and passengers. It is not possible at present to identify the current contents and state of the lift car.
