Summary
A gold mourning brooch covered in red precious stones, with glazed locket on the reverse containing hair. Also a gold bracelet with small links. Engraved on the reverse of the brooch is the inscription - In Memory of Wilbraham Egerton Esq[re] Ob. April 25[th] 1856.
Provenance
The gold brooch and bracelet had been given to Thomas William Tatton of Wythenshawe in memory of his uncle, Wilbraham (Cherry) Egerton of Tatton Park upon his death in 1856. It was passed down through Tatton of Wythenshawe family members to Betty Catherine Tatton (later Mrs. B.C. Broun) who donated the mourning ensemble to the National Trust at Tatton Park in 1986.
