Full description
English flintlock sporting gun signed Thomas, c1810 (several gunmakers with this name and from the same period are recorded). Round iron barrel of Damascus twist construction, the flattened top breech with star engraving and inlaid with a gold line. Engraved barrel tang with sighting channel. Bead fore-sight. Under-rib with 2 ramrod pipes. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel slides each with white metal escutcheons. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Barrel length 125cm. Calibre 16mm. Walnut half stock with a chequered wrist, the butt of curved form. Iron furniture comprising; butt plate, trigger guard engraved and formed with scroll shaped finger rest and a pinapple finial, and 1 rear ramrod pipe. White metal fore-end cap and wrist escutcheon. Flintlock of flat form, engraved THOMAS. Water-proof flash-pan and anti-friction roller frizzen. The comb of cock damaged, part of the top-jaw screw missing, the top jaw missing and the tip of the frizzen missing. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length: 125cm
