Full description
Balkan (Albanian?) flintlock gun, dated1800. Iron barrel of 2 stage construction, octagonal at the breech, then round to the muzzle, the breech struck with a makers mark (worn). Retained to the stock by 5 embossed silver barrel bands and 1 long plain muzzle sheath. The ramrod missing. Barrel length 99.7cm. Calibre 15.5mm. Wooden full stock with finely carved decoration. Flattened butt of fish–tail form, carved overall with a fine decorative pattern, the upper fin overlaid with embossed sheet silver and each side inlaid with an embossed triangular silver plaque. The lower edge of the butt inlaid with silver wire in a scrolling pattern including the date 1800. Chiselled silver furniture comprising; trigger guard with decorative finial, side-plate and escutcheon. Engraved flintlock of flat form with a stepped tail and bevelled edges. The frizzen with a serrated face. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nail. Overall length: 140.8cm
