Summary
One of a pair of giltwood sofas, English circa 1825. Shaped backs and padded arms, heavily carved in gilded limewood, shell and scroll acanthus leaf motifs, upholstered and covered in red silk damask. Attributed to Gillows of Lancaster.
Marks and inscriptions

Flood 1909/10 / Alterations to [rooms?] House / [and] / Recovered repd re with / new Silk 1909 by Messrs Maples [men?] / Walls rec. / Old Silk off Walls [and] Furniture / was Macclesfield silk [fixed?] on to walls (1806) / according to [records?] (handwritten in pencil on frame of TAT/F/29, a by Thompson Flood the estate carpenter in the late 19th and early 20th Century)
