Summary
Black marble chimneypiece, Entrance Hall, Tatton Park by Lewis William Wyatt (Penrhyn Bay 1777 – Isle of Wight 1853). One of two chimneypieces of polished black marble decorated on the pilaster side columns with Bacchic panther heads and paw feet in the neoclassical style, designed by Lewis Wyatt in February 1811. Brass monopodia panthers adorn the side cheeks of the central steel fire basket. The fireplace was originally designed with a radiator grille at the back which would have conducted heat into the Cupola and Staircase Halls behind the Entrance Hall.
