Caption
Ronald Copeland sent specimens from the gardens at Trelissick to the Spode manufactory, where Harold Holdway prepared the illustrations used on these wares. Six rhododendrons were initially chosen, Batemonii, Gwylt King, Augustinii, Fortunei, Dalhousii and Hodgsonii. Examples were presented to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Trelissick in 2002.
Summary
Cover or lid for preserve pot, white with gilt rim (preserve pot 1296260.7.1) from the Trelissick Rhododendrons ceramic collection; seventeen Spode Copeland dessert plates and other wares, 1950's-70's. Designed by Harold Holdway, each plate decorated with a hand-coloured etching of rhododendron blooms grown at Trelissick, comprising two sets of six large plates with five other plates in different colourways, together with seven dessert plates, three cups and saucers, four side plates and a preserve pot all decorated with other Trelissick flowers. An original illustration by Harold Holdway of Rhododendrons from Trelissick, signed and dated 1988, was also part of the lot.
