Caption
Ronald Copeland sent specimens from the gardens at Trelissick to the Spode manufactory, where Harold Holdway prepared the illustrations used on these wares. Six rhododendrons were initially chosen, Batemonii, Gwylt King, Augustinii, Fortunei, Dalhousii and Hodgsonii. Examples were presented to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Trelissick in 2002.
Summary
Plate from a group of five large plates with the Trelissick Rhododendrons illustrated. It shows the 'Fortunei' rhododendron in an alternative colourway of violet. It is marked with a green Spode mark on the reverse and is also marked with RS Copeland's personal inventory number. The group comprises one duplicate 'Gwylt King' plate and four plates in additional colourways from the Trelissick Rhododendrons ceramic collection.
