Caption
Ronald Copeland sent specimens from the gardens at Trelissick to the Spode manufactory, where Harold Holdway prepared the illustrations used on these wares. Six rhododendrons were initially chosen, Batemonii, Gwylt King, Augustinii, Fortunei, Dalhousii and Hodgsonii. Examples were presented to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Trelissick in 2002.
Summary
Plate from a group of five large plates with the Trelissick Rhododendrons illustrated. The plate is a duplicate entitled 'Gwylt King' after the red rhododendron illustrated on it.It has a later red Spode mark on the reverse, unlike the other four plates in this grouping which have green Spode marks on the reverse. It is also not marked with RS Copeland's personal inventory number like the other plates. The group comprises one duplicate 'Gwylt King' plate and four plates in additional colourways from the Trelissick Rhododendrons ceramic collection.
