Summary
Colander Teapot. Electroplate, wicker and wood. Registered number 398954. Tea strainer registered no: 512495. Marked Benson Rd 398954 and also bearing "The Benson Shield". Seperate lid and colander. In a contempory advertisement Benson described it thus: "Outwardly this teapot looks to be similar to others except that just in front of the handle is a little thumb piece which supports the saucepan shaped colander in which the tea is placed. When the tea has been infusted long enough a single movement of the thumb raises the colander and the leaves in it above the water level, where it is held by a button. There is no hinge or other mechanism to get out of order - the whole is simplicity itself and is more easily cleaned than an ordinary pot. It is made in copper or electroplate and all the copper vessels are silver lined". This item has been gifted by The Hogben Collection.
